VE-7 Support - Mac

   Once the program launches, the first thing you need to do is go into the VE-7 Settings and select your audio interface as the input and output for the VE-7.  Next you need to set the Audio Buffer Size to 128. 
   Be sure you are monitoring Only over Headphones with the speakers ( if you have them ) turned off.
  If your microphone requires 48 V phantom power, be sure the phantom power on your audio interface is turned on.
    If your audio interface has ‘Direct’ monitoring, it should be turned off.  On the Behringer UHD204HD and UHD404HD the ‘Mix’ knob should be full right on ‘PB’.

Mac Minimum System Recommendations

   If you are purchasing a new Mac, we Highly recommend the Apple Silicon M1 or M2 processors. 
    Most Macs with at least 8 GB of RAM should be able to run the program.   We have both x86 versions of the program as well as the M1 or later Apple Silicon.   Any of the newer Apple Silicon models will have no issues with running the program.

  • 8 GB RAM or More

    If you are using Windows 10 and Windows Defender without any other external virus protection, then following the steps below should yield a trouble free install and running experience.   If you are using additional virus protection, you may need to go to the Anti-Virus FAQ to get additional tips to install with your Anti-Virus program

By unzipping and running the VE-7DemoSetup.zip file you can access the VE-7 Demo Setup.exe. Setup is easy by following the prompt windows and accepting the EULA. Step by step instructions are below if your Windows 10 security settings are set to max defaults.

Troubleshooting

Music Stutters Or Has Repeating Distortion

   If the sound clears up when you click the VE-7’s Process button to put it in the  VE-7’s A.I. Engine into Bypass mode then your computer is having difficulty running the VE-7’s Advanced A.I. Vocal Elimination engine.  First close down all other programs.  Then  if you are on a laptop, plug the power into the laptop and be sure that you have set your computer to optimize for Performance.   On Windows go into Settings / Power and Sleep / Additional Power Settings /  Select Performance
   If this does not clear the issue then your current computer is not powerful enough to run the VE-7’s Advanced A. I. Vocal Eliminator.   All the other functions of the VE-7 will work normally in Bypass mode, you just won’t be able to remove vocals until you upgrade your computer.

Microphone Produces Loud Squeal From the Speakers

    This is called audio feedback.  You should be using closed back headphones plugged into your Audio Interface to monitor and the volume to your Speakers should be turned all the way down.  Speakers in your Home Studio are totally optional and not specifically recommended as high quality closed back headphones all you really need for monitoring.  If you have speakers, the volume to your speakers should be turned all the way down whenever the microphone is not muted on the VE-7.  Presuming your speakers are connected to the Main Out on the Audio Interface this is done by turning down the Main Out volume on your Audio Interface.

My Microphone Sounds Delayed

  This is called Latency.  If your microphone signal is delayed, the Audio Buffer Size may be too large.  Audio Buffer size is set in the  VE-7’s Settings menu.  Set the buffer size to 128.   On Windows computers you also should have the Audio Device type  in the VE-7’s Settings menu set to ASIO.  If you don’t see ASIO as a selection, you need to install ASIO drivers for your Audio Interface.  

I Hear My Microphone And Nothing Else

  If you can only hear your microphone and can’t hear anything else, you likely have your Audio Interface set to monitor the Input signal and not the PB or Output from the computer.  On the Behringer UMC204HD set the MIX control to the full PB or Playback position.  On the Behringer UMC202HD set the Direct Monitor switch to the out or off position and you should now be able to hear the computer’s output.  

My Microphone Sounds Distorted

   You likely have the mic gain control on the audio interface set too high. Set the gain level so that it is just below the clipping indicator on the Audio Interface.
  The input level is also indicated on the VE-7’s Mic meter by the color of the line.  When the gain is set properly, the meter color will change from green to yellow to orange and finally red when the gain is set too high on the audio interface.  You want to see yellow and orange on the loudest singing sections but not red.  Back off a tad on the mic gain if you see the green level indicator go to red.

I Can't Hear My Microphone At All, Even Though I Can Hear My Music Through The VE-7

    If you are using one of the recommended large diaphragm mics which requires 48 V phantom power you may have the phantom power turned off on the interface. Turn the phantom power on.  If this was not the issue, is the Mic Mute on the VE-7 engaged below the Mic Volume Slider?

My Microphone Isn't Loud Enough Even With The VE-7's Mic Volume at 100%

  You may have the Mic Input gain on your Audio Interface set too low.  While singing into the mic turn the gain up to the point that clipping is indicated and then back off from that level a bit to where you are as high as you can go on your loudest singing without clipping showing on the audio interface. 
   The input level is also indicated on the VE-7’s Mic meter by the color of the line.  When the gain is set properly, the meter color will change from green to yellow to orange and finally red when the gain is set too high on the audio interface.  You want to see yellow and orange on the loudest singing sections but not red.  Back off a tad on the mic gain if you see the green level indicator go to red.

Program Frozen On Windows Computer After Selecting DirectShow In Settings

   On Windows DirectShow drivers may cause a lockup of the program.  ASIO is the recommended driver for Windows.  Windows Audio will function, but will produce a delay on the microphone signal.  If your VE-7 program is locked after selecting DirectShow then download and run this batch file which will delete the corrupted file.   A fresh non-corrupted file will be generated when you re-launch the VE-7.
   If you cannot run the batch file then navigate to C:\Users\Public\Documents\VE-7 and locate the dmState.xml file and delete it.  A fresh version will be generated when you relaunch the VE-7 and go into the Settings menu.

Anti-virus Troubleshooting and Program WhiteListing

   Your Anti-Virus program may fail to recognize the VE-7 and flag it as malware by mistake.  The solution to enable your antivirus program to recognize the VE-7 as legitimate is called WhiteListing.  This is a common potential issue and if your virus protection program either prevents you from installing the program or deletes the main Qlm_VE-7.exe file which should be found in the C:\Program Files (x86)\VE-7 directory, then consult the links below for your particular virus protection program for their instructions on how to install a program that is being blocked or deleted. 

    If you need to disable your virus program to install, then you may be a bit more comfortable when you see the install exe is digitally signed before running the setup.   This means that a third party has checked the digital signing and that the setup file that we at LT Sound created is authentically from us and has Not been tampered with.You can go to “Show more details” link in the popup to find out more.
